Mykolaiv Alumina Plant LLC (hereinafter – MGZ) is a non-ferrous metallurgy enterprise located in Mykolaiv region, and is a part of the Russian company RUSAL, which is itself part of EN+ Group controlled by Oleg Deripaska. The plant supplies alumina for the needs of the Russian Federation<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GRECO Law Company initiated a class action lawsuit, through an NGO it created, in the interests of its 1,279 members against MGZ for compensation of moral damage caused to the plaintiffs as a result of the illegal burial of red sludge and its harmful effects on the environment and human life<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the decision of the Zavodskyy District Court of Mykolaiv dated May 26, 2021, in the case initiated by the STOP SLUDGE (NGO) class action lawsuit was satisfied, the court ordered to seize UAH 9,800,000,000 from MGZ in favour of the NGO \u201cSTOP SLUDGE\u201d (over USD 300,000,000) compensation for moral damage caused by violations of environmental legislation to 1,279 members of the organization, UAH 7,200,000 (over USD 240,000) for each member of the organization<\/p>\n\n\n\n
